Attorney

Meet Attorney Ronald D. Phillips

After attending Elon College in North Carolina, Widener University and Widener University School of Law in Pennsylvania, I began practicing law in Dover in 1994. In 1998, I opened an office in my hometown of Georgetown Delaware and have practiced in both Kent County and Sussex County ever since. Over the years I have had the opportunity to gain experience in many areas of the law including contracts, workers compensation, personal injury, civil litigation, real estate and a myriad of other areas of law. However, my practiced evolved into one which concentrated mainly on criminal defense and domestic relations. I discontinued my domestic relations practice in 2008 and now concentrate my practice on criminal defense, including DUI, traffic, felonies and misdemeanors. My philosophy in providing representation in these areas is to treat each client as an individual and try to fashion a result that is in their personal best interest. I seek a result which serves them best in protecting their future. My advice is often candid and direct in order to allow my clients to make the most informed decisions possible. I combine my legal expertise with practical experience and good old fashioned common sense because I realize that my client will live with the outcome of their legal matter long after my relationship with them is over.

As a lawyer, I have operated my own firm, served as a managing partner of two others and had the opportunity to work with some of the best lawyers in the State of Delaware. These experiences continue to serve me every day as I can draw on the resources of other attorneys as well as my own legal experience. At all times I strive to uphold a professional and collegial relationship with all those who work in our justice system, including court staff, adversaries, judges and support personnel, while zealously advocating for my client with integrity and professionalism.

I have also had the fortunate opportunity to engage in a variety of activities outside the practice of law. As a former collegiate athlete, I was naturally drawn to coaching and for many years’ coached football and baseball. I also have continued as a part time lifeguard for the Bethany Beach Patrol. I began my service with the Beach Patrol in 1984 and served in the capacity of lifeguard, crew chief and lieutenant. During my time on the patrol, I also competed in lifeguard competitions and was on the first team to represent Delaware at the United States Life Association National Championships in Galveston Texas in 1986. As a result of my time on the beach Patrol, I began the Ed Dean Memorial Scholarship in memory of Ed Dean and currently serve as its director and chair the Ed Dean Memorial 4 mile run which is held every year out of Magnolia’s Restaurant in Ocean View. I am also actively involved with Eagles Nest Fellowship Church and Eagles Nest Christian Academy in Milton, Delaware. I am involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and have coached at several of their camps here on Delmarva. I continue to love surfing and spending days at the beach with my family and friends.

It is my hope that I can use my experiences and life perspective to help you resolve your legal issue and protect your future from the long term consequences of a mistake that has you winding up on the wrong side of the legal justice system.
